Glossary of Diseases and Conditions

Herpes zoster, also known as chickenpox, is a viral condition that creates a painful rash with red, itchy, and burning skin lesions. Herpes is caused by a virus that resides in your nervous system for years before symptoms appear. Face, neck, chest, and one side of the body are affected. It is also known as ophthalmic herpes zoster since it can affect the eye area. The Varicella-Zoster virus produces herpes zoster, which is treatable with antiviral drugs.

Genital herpes infection: This is a common sexually transmitted infection that affects the genitals and can affect both men and women. Symptoms include pain, discomfort, itching, and genital sores. Among the symptoms are genital pain and blisters.

Herpes labialis, sometimes known as cold sores, is a condition caused by a virus that infects the lips. There is a burning sensation and little blisters on the skin. It may also produce fever in certain individuals. When aciclovir is administered, cold sores heal more quickly.

This is a highly infectious virus that causes chickenpox. Typical symptoms include rashes, small painful blisters, fever, sore throat, and body aches. 24 to 48 hours after the onset of chickenpox, take one aciclovir pill (rash). In addition, avoid contact with those who have chickenpox and maintain hygiene for a speedy recovery.

FAQs

Those with HIV should avoid using aciclovir (Human Immuno Deficiency Syndrome). It can increase your risk of developing Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (blood clot formation in small blood vessels).

Aciclovir should be administered according to the doctor’s dosage and duration guidelines. If you exceed the recommended dosage, you may experience unpleasant side effects. Please consult a physician if your symptoms do not improve.

If you miss a dose of Aciclovir, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose if the next dose is approaching.

Aciclovir is not a herpes cure. Instead, it alleviates the pain and itchiness that it produces and prevents the formation of new sores.

It is not a good idea to stop taking Aciclovir without consulting your doctor. If you abruptly stop using Aciclovir, you may get disorientation, fever, mental state changes, or significant muscle stiffness. Depending on the severity of your condition, your physician will likely gradually reduce your dosage.

Aciclovir is not known to impair contraception (condoms). As herpes infection is a sexually transmitted disease, please utilize any form of contraception to avoid its transmission.

Aciclovir inhibits the multiplication of viruses within human cells. Consequently, the spread of viruses is slowed and new viruses are created, removing the infection gradually. Aciclovir should be taken in the morning, as it is often administered every four hours.
