Cold sores are painful blisters in or around the mouth that are caused by the herpes simplex virus. Herpes can’t be cured with Acivir cream, but it does stop it from spreading and treat the symptoms.

Acivir cream is a medicine that fights viruses and has aciclovir in it. Acivir cream works on the DNA of viruses to stop them from multiplying in human cells. This reduces the number of viruses in the body.

Acivir cream can be taken with or without food, depending on how much and how long the doctor tells you to take it. Your dose will depend on how well Acivir-200 DT works for you and how sick you are. Possible side effects include headaches, feeling sick (nausea or vomiting), diarrhea, and skin that is sensitive to sunlight. Most of the bad effects of Acivir cream are temporary, don’t need medical care, and go away over time. But if the bad things don’t go away, you should see a doctor.

Only take it if your doctor tells you to. Never tell someone to take their own medicine or suggest that they use yours. Do not take it if you are allergic to Acivir cream, aciclovir, or any of its other ingredients. See your doctor if you’re pregnant, nursing, or taking any other prescription or over-the-counter medicines. Use protection when you have sexual contact to keep from giving your partner genital herpes, a disease that can be spread through sexual contact. If your immune system is weak, talk to your doctor before you start using Acivir cream. You may need a different dose.

FAQs

Aciclovir should be taken according to how much and for how long the doctor tells you. If you take more than the recommended amount, it might make you feel bad. If your symptoms don’t seem to be getting better, you should see a doctor.

If you miss a dose of Aciclovir, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose if the next dose is coming up soon.

Herpes can’t be cured with aciclovir. Instead, it takes away the pain and itching that it causes and stops new sores from forming.

You shouldn’t stop taking Aciclovir without talking to your doctor first. If you stop taking Aciclovir all of a sudden, you may feel disoriented, have a fever, change your mental state, or have very stiff muscles. Depending on how bad your illness is, your doctor will most likely lower your dose over time.

Aciclovir is not known to affect how well a woman can get pregnant (condoms). Since herpes is a sexually transmitted disease, please use any kind of birth control to stop it from spreading.
