Victoza Solution

Victoza Solution is an anti-diabetic drug used primarily to treat type 2 diabetes in children and people older than 10 years. The metabolic condition diabetes mellitus is characterized by unusually high blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes develops when the pancreas’s hormone for decreasing blood glucose, ‘insulin,’ is secreted but is unable to be utilised by our body’s cells to produce energy.

Victoza Solution contains Liraglutide, a recombinant Deoxyribonucleic Acid (rDNA) that increases pancreatic insulin release during periods of high blood sugar (post-meal) and decreases the amount of sugar generated by the liver. Additionally, Victoza Solution slows stomach emptying, which inhibits hunger and assists weight loss in an individual.

Victoza Solution is injected subcutaneously, or beneath the skin (SC) (SC). Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, stomach difficulty, constipation, headache, weariness, rash, and dizziness are some of the most typical side effects of Victoza Solution. These negative consequences are not universal and vary from person to person. Consult your physician if you have uncontrollable side effects.

Before using Victoza Solution, inform your doctor if you have a history of heart, kidney, or liver issues, pancreatitis (pancreas inflammation), or stomach abnormalities such as gastroparesis (slow gastric emptying) (delayed gastric emptying). Do not take or discontinue this medication without your doctor’s approval. It is not recommended to use Victoza Solution in conjunction with prandial insulin (mealtime insulin). Alcohol should be avoided when using Victoza Solution to prevent further low blood sugar levels. Consult your physician prior to initiating Victoza Solution if you are pregnant or nursing.

Victoza Solution Uses and Indications Type 2 diabetic mellitus

VICTOZA INJ

Medicinal Advantages

Victoza Solution contains the active component Liraglutide and is prescribed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It is recombinant DNA (rDNA) that functions similarly to Incretin, a naturally occurring hormone (metabolic hormone, which stimulates a decrease in blood glucose levels). It functions by increasing pancreatic insulin production during times of high blood sugar (after a meal) and decreasing the quantity of sugar produced by the liver. Victoza Solution may be taken in addition to or in place of other medications, as well as a healthy diet and regular exercise, to help regulate blood sugar levels.

Use Instructions

Victoza Solution is administered subcutaneously. The dosage will be determined by your physician based on the severity of your disease and your tolerance. Your doctor may start with a low dose and progressively raise it until the appropriate level of blood glucose control is achieved. The injectable Victoza Solution should be clear, colorless, and devoid of particles. Inject Victoza Solution subcutaneously (under the skin) into the belly, thigh, or upper arm. You may take Victoza Solution with or without food. Victoza Solution should be taken with food because it lowers blood sugar levels and may cause gastrointestinal side effects. The Victoza Solution pen should be refrigerated or stored at room temperature and used within 30 days. Victoza Solution is not intended to be frozen.

Storage Avoid direct sunlight and store in a cool, dry spot.

Adverse Drug Reactions

Inform your doctor if you have heart, kidney, or liver illness, pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), stomach abnormalities such as gastroparesis (slow gastric emptying), high cholesterol levels, gallbladder problems, or depression before commencing Liraglutide. Patients with type 2 multiple endocrine neoplasia (thyroid and parathyroid gland tumors) with a personal or family history of thyroid cancer should not use liraglutide. Avoid using Liraglutide and prandial insulin concurrently (mealtime insulin). Take Liraglutide injections apart from insulin injections if you are also taking insulin. Please do not mix them. Both injections may be done at the same site on the body, but the injection sites should not be contiguous. It is not permissible to share an injectable pen, cartridge, or syringe, even if the needle has been replaced. Alcohol should be avoided when taking Liraglutide to prevent further low blood sugar levels. Before beginning this medication, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should visit their physician. Liraglutide should only be administered to children and adults older than 10 years.

Interactions Between Drugs

Liraglutide can interact with other anti-diabetic drugs (insulin glargine, insulin degludec), hormones (levothyroxine), corticosteroids (prednisone), antipsychotic drugs (olanzapine), antibiotics (ciprofloxacin), hypertension drugs (propranolol, metoprolol), and glaucoma eye drops (timolol).

Due to its effect on glucose levels, alcohol consumption should be restricted. Avoid fatty foods and consume more healthful carbohydrates.

Inform your doctor if you have a history of allergic reactions to medications, heart, kidney, or liver disease, pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), stomach disorders such as gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying), high cholesterol levels, gallbladder problems, or depression prior to taking Liraglutide. Patients with type 2 multiple endocrine neoplasia (thyroid and parathyroid gland tumors) with a personal or family history of thyroid cancer should not use liraglutide.

Safety Recommendations

ALCOHOL

It is advised to limit alcohol consumption, since it may intensify bad effects and increase the likelihood of developing hypoglycemia.

PREGNANCY

In animal studies, fetal toxicity of liraglutide was determined. During pregnancy, liraglutide should only be administered if the benefits outweigh the risks. If you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, consult your doctor prior to commencing Liraglutide treatment.

BREAST FEEDING

There are insufficient data about Liraglutide’s effect on breastfeeding. Before starting Liraglutide, it is important to get medical advice if you are breastfeeding.

DRIVING

If your blood sugar is too high or too low, it could impede your ability to drive. If you have blurred vision, dizziness, or drowsiness as a result of dangerously low or high blood sugar, avoid driving or using heavy machinery.

LIVER

When using Liraglutide, contact your doctor if you have a history of liver sickness or hepatic impairment.

KIDNEY

If you have a history of kidney disease and are taking Liraglutide, tell your doctor.

No.

Advice on Diet and Lifestyle

Take the medication exactly as directed by your doctor, and at regular intervals if you are taking it more than once a day. Do not take any additional over-the-counter medications, herbal supplements, or vitamin supplements while taking Liraglutide without first seeing your pharmacist or doctor.

Consume a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains that is high in fiber to help manage your blood glucose levels.

Consume food at consistent intervals.

To keep your heart healthy, you should maintain a healthy weight and engage in regular exercise.

In addition, your doctor will teach you how to identify and treat the early symptoms of high/low blood sugar levels.

Simple modifications in lifestyle can aid in the management of gastrointestinal side effects. These include consuming less sugar and fat, as well as avoiding carbonated beverages and meals that cause gas.

Special Guidance

Liraglutide may increase the likelihood of thyroid gland cancer, specifically medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC – a type of thyroid cancer).

Never reuse or swap insulin needles or insulin pens.

In addition, this item cannot be returned.

Concern for Patients

Diabetes mellitus, commonly known as diabetes of adult onset, is a metabolic condition characterized by high blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes develops when insulin is poor at breaking down glucose to produce energy (insulin resistance) or when the pancreas (an organ behind the stomach) produces inadequate or no insulin. This disorder is more widespread in people over the age of 40, but depending on the risk factors, it can also develop in youngsters. Oral glucose-lowering medicines and insulin injections are used to treat diabetes.

FAQs

Victoza Solution contains Liraglutide, which stimulates the pancreas to produce more insulin following meals when blood glucose levels are high. Therefore, Liraglutide aids in lowering blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Liraglutide may cause hypoglycemia, which can result in feelings of hunger, dizziness, irritability, confusion, anxiety, or trembling. It is therefore advised to take Liraglutide with food. To swiftly treat hypoglycemia, it is advised to take sugar sources with a rapid onset of action, such as fruit juices, hard candies, raisins, and regular cola.

Only injectable Liraglutide solution that is clear, colorless, and particle-free should be used. Inject Liraglutide subcutaneously (under the skin) into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Liraglutide can be consumed either with or without food. However, if possible, Liraglutide should be taken with food, as it reduces blood sugar levels and may cause gastrointestinal side effects. It is not permissible to share an injectable pen, cartridge, or syringe, even if the needle has been replaced.

Liraglutide may be taken alone or in conjunction with other medications to help regulate blood sugar. However, it is advised that Liraglutide not be combined with prandial insulin (mealtime insulin). Take Liraglutide injections apart from insulin injections if you are also taking insulin. Please do not mix them. Both injections may be done at the same site on the body, but the injection sites should not be contiguous.

Patients with heart, kidney, or liver disease, pancreatitis (pancreatic inflammation), stomach anomalies such as gastroparesis (slow gastric emptying), hypercholesterolemia, gallbladder problems, or depression should use liraglutide with caution. Patients with type 2 multiple endocrine neoplasia (thyroid and parathyroid gland tumors) with a personal or family history of thyroid cancer should not use liraglutide.

Immediately administer the missed dose. If the next dose is near, however, you should omit the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Contrary to popular perception, the dose should not be doubled.

Refrigerate unused Liraglutide pens between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius. After initial usage, liraglutide should be stored at room temperature between 15°C and 30°C or in the refrigerator and utilized within 30 days. Liraglutide is not intended to be frozen. Liraglutide that has been frozen should not be administered.
