Restasis

Restasis is an immunosuppressant that reduces pain and inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis, treats psoriasis, and prevents organ rejection after a transplant. It is also used to treat eye dryness. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system causes discomfort and damage to the joints by destroying its own tissue. Chronic inflammatory skin disease is psoriasis.

Restasis contains cyclosporine, which suppresses the body’s immune system. Consequently, organ rejection is prevented. It alleviates the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis by lowering inflammation and discomfort. It stimulates tear production by minimizing inflammation and edema of the eyes. As a result, it alleviates pain, keeps the eyes moist, and assists in the treatment of dry eyes.

Follow your physician’s instructions when administering Restasis. Depending on your medical conditions, you should take Restasis for the duration of time suggested by your doctor. Restasis may induce headaches, nausea, high blood pressure, loss of appetite (feeling ill and stomach discomfort), and diarrhea in certain individuals. The majority of these side effects do not require medical intervention and will subside with time. However, if you have these side effects frequently, you should visit your physician.

Inform your doctor if you have any allergies, kidney disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or cancer before using Restasis. Before using Restasis if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, speak with your doctor. Restasis increases the risk of infections and skin cancer. Therefore, exercise caution and prevent prolonged sun exposure. To rule out the possibility of unpleasant side effects, discuss your health condition and drugs with your doctor.

Consequently, organ rejection is prevented. It stimulates tear production by minimizing inflammation and edema of the eyes. As a result, it alleviates pain, keeps the eyes moist, and assists in the treatment of dry eyes.

Advice on Diet and Lifestyle

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a joint-affecting form of arthritis.

Physical activity strengthens muscles and decreases joint stiffness. Twenty to thirty minutes of brisk walking or swimming might be beneficial.

Practicing yoga can also help with joint mobility and pain management.

Maintain a healthy weight by regularly engaging in low-stress exercises and consuming nutritious foods.

Get sufficient sleep to minimize inflammation and edema through muscular rest.

Regularly apply a cold or hot compress to the joints for 15 to 20 minutes after heat or cold therapy.

De-stressing activities include meditating, reading novels, taking a relaxing bubble bath, and listening to tranquil music.

Additionally, physical therapy, massage, and acupuncture may be advantageous.

Antioxidant-rich foods include, among others, berries, spinach, kidney beans, and dark chocolate.

Foods containing flavonoids help to decrease inflammation. Among them are soy, berries, broccoli, grapes, and green tea.

Avoid tobacco use and alcohol consumption.

Eyes with dryness:

Hands should be frequently washed. Eyes should not be touched with unclean hands.

Rub your eyes the least amount possible.

Mascara, eyeliner, and kohl should never be shared.

Always wipe your eyes and face with clean towels or tissues.

Regularly, pillowcases should be washed and replaced.

If you wear contact lenses, you should regularly clean and replace them. Never share contact lenses with another person. Before inserting the contact lens, ensure that your hands are clean.

Avoid staring at digital screens for prolonged durations. Take a 20-minute break to relax your eyes every 20 minutes.

Concerns of Patients

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks and destroys its own tissue, causing joint pain and damage. Rheumatoid arthritis is characterized by joint pain, inflammation, mobility difficulties, and edema.

Rejection of an organ transplant happens when the body perceives a new organ as foreign and attempts to attack and reject it because it was not originally part of the body. Therefore, immunosuppressive drugs such as cyclosporine are used to these patients to suppress their immune systems and prevent an attack on a newly transplanted organ.

Psoriasis is a persistent, inflammatory skin disorder. It is not infectious, however it appears to run in families. It causes redness and irritation of the skin.

Dry eyes are a common eye condition that occurs when your tears cannot effectively moisten your eyes. Inflammation and damage to the surface of the eye arise from unstable tearing. Among the symptoms include burning feelings, sensitivity to light, eye redness, a feeling of something in the eyes, wet eyes, and blurred vision.

FAQs

Immunosuppressant cyclosporine reduces symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis by reducing inflammation and preventing joint stiffness.

Take Restasis as soon as you remember if you forget to take it. If the next scheduled dose is approaching, skip the missed dose and take only the next scheduled dose.

Cyclosporine has the potential to produce diarrhea as a side effect. If you have diarrhea, you should consume copious amounts of water and avoid spicy foods. If you observe blood in your stools (tarry stools) or if you have severe diarrhea, consult your doctor. Do not provide anti-diarrheal medication to yourself.

Use of Restasis may result in abnormal hair growth, a common side effect. If you have any concerns, please consult with a physician.

Cyclosporine is known to inhibit the immune system. Consequently, it increases the risk of infection and cancer, especially skin cancer. Therefore, restrict your exposure to the sun by wearing protective clothing and using sunscreen regularly.
